How would you describe your team?
An “unruly mob”, “confused crowd”, “warring factions” or “individual stars”?
Do you know what your team is?
Does it achieve as it ought or does it never quite make the grade and glorify the Lord as it should?
Teams are a key element of almost every ministry, whether they are formal or informal, small or large. To achieve the ministry’s Kingdom purpose it is essential that they work well.
The Six Dimensions of Effective Teams
From the Christian servant leader’s perspective the following six factors are crucial in enabling a team to excel. This is important in Christian service where often resources are scarce and the lives of people are directly affected.
- Alignment
Members share, adopt and are committed to a clear and coherent purpose. - Crystal Clear Roles
Each has a well defined role and is clear about what each other member does. - Accepted Leadership
Task leadership is provided by the member who is the most competent on that issue. - Effective Team Processes
All members know how to interact and function effectively as they work together. - Solid Relationships
Members actively trust each other so they can withstand and respond to challenges. - Excellent Communications
Each member takes responsibility for ensuring that their communications work.
