22nd & 23rd May 2012
Do you find some people frustratingly to be a complete puzzle? They don’t react as you expect or you can’t get past some blockage with them?
Do you find tension arises when you respond to certain people in what seems to you to be a quite reasonable way? You just don’t seem to be able to connect with them.
Ponder this for a moment, what do the following all have in common:
- The Pharisee Nicodemus,
- The Scribes and the elders who challenged Jesus’ authority,
- The Pharisees and Herodians who tried to trap him over paying taxes,
- The Sadducees who asked about the widow and the seven brothers and
- The Scribe who asked about the greatest commandment of all?
They were each different and Jesus dealt with each of them differently; individually. His response was not “one size fits all”. Jesus understood them individually and he specifically chose his individual responses.
Emotional Intelligence Helps
We may never be as good as Jesus at this but we can improve, and when we do there are benefits to be had, including: better communications, more effective team work, fewer frustrations with people and, what is better, them being less frustrated with us.
Understanding what makes you and others tick, means that you can choose the way you respond, just as Jesus did. Although in recent years this ability has been described as “emotional intelligence”, Jesus demonstrated it to perfection some 2000 years ago.
Understanding yourself, how you interact with the individual character of others and then choosing your own appropriate style of response is a hallmark of a spiritually mature leader.
You may feel its beyond you, but it is a skill and it can be learned and developed.
Discovering Emotional Intelligence for the Christian Leader
Developing your emotional intelligence will enable you to enjoy less conflict and greater cooperation with other people. It will also help you to “get inside the skin” of others which will benefit the effectiveness of your communication skills , team leadership and also enhance pastoral and mentoring relationships.
This seminar introduces emotional intelligence, in the context of a Christ-centred leadership style. It majors on the most important aspects of awareness of others and awareness of self.
As a result of attending this two day seminar you will:
- Understand what emotional intelligence is in general and specifically focus on the key attributes of self awareness and others awareness.
- Discover what makes you “tick” using the proven DiSC personal inventory.
- Improve your empathy by developing your ability to understand how others think, feel and function.
- Enhance your ability to communicate and cooperate with others.
- Learn how to use the “golden pause” to choose appropriate responses in the situations that you face.
